We were very pleased to receive the continued support for our campaign from the Cornish MP’s who met with NHS England and note that they received some positive news.
However, we already knew that there was never any suggestion the unit would close and very rare tumours are already sent to specialist centres. Our campaign was prompted by the consultants at Sunrise being very worried that around 200, or more, patients a year with less common cancers would, in the future, have to travel elsewhere in the network to receive radiotherapy. These are patients currently treated at the Sunrise Centre on world class equipment using advanced techniques.
We urge everyone to remain vigilant until we receive the delayed outcome of the consultation in the summer.
